The Maple Leafs announced today that a new goalie would be joining the organization.
Leafs Sign Alexander to Tryout
This isn't the first time that the Maple Leafs have signed a college backup for a game.
Due to the accrued daily cap of carrying both Matt Murray and Ilya Samsonov, the Maple Leafs are forced to dress only one goalie tonight.
-
Thus, they have signed University of Toronto's Jett Alexander to an amateur tryout contract to back up tonight.

-
It is entirely possible that the organization takes inspiration from the Edmonton Oilers and university goaltender Matt Berlin and play Alexander if they're leading late in the game.
Hopefully Samsonov will stay healthy and Alexander won't be needed, but whether he plays or not he'll have the once in a lifetime chance to be a Maple Leaf.
Do you think the Maple Leafs goaltender tandem is built for the playoffs?
