Now fans are bringing to light specific comments from former Leafs General Manager Brian Burke about Matthews' future in Toronto.
Burke Predicts Matthews Exit
In a radio clip from five years ago, Brian Burke predicted Auston Matthews would leave the Maple Leafs. In an interview, he said that he would bet a very sizeable amount of money that Matthews would leave. At the time Burke was just getting out of a front office role with the Calgary Flames and getting into his stint in television.
Matthews Extension
Auston Matthews signed his 4-year extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs at an AAV of 13,250,000. Since the signing Matthews has been on record saying that he is happy to be in Toronto and that he couldn't see himself anywhere else.
