Auston Matthews hasn't been the reigning Hart trophy winner this year. He hasn't been bad by any means, but he's been off.

Matthews Breaks the Silence

In a brief interview with Jonas Siegel of The Athletic, Matthews explained his injury, recovery, and hope for the future.

Matthews described his injury as such:

«It was bothering me,» Matthews told me. «It just felt like something was off. I just felt like not completely, like I wasn't able to do exactly what I wanted to at times.»

Knowing the type of player Matthews is, with a quick snap shot, not being able to do what he needs to do when he wants to do it is holding him back. He's feeling better now, thankfully.

«I think my hand and everything has been feeling a lot better, just stronger,»

Having now scored his 31st goal of the year, Matthews is starting to get his groove back. It's perfect timing, as he'll be fully healthy by the playoffs.
