Kyle Dubas acquires a player and ends his contract immediately
Recently, Kyle Dubas made his first big move of the season with the Pittsburgh Penguins when he sent Mark Friedman and Ty Glover to the Canucks in a move for Jack Rathbone and Karel Plasek.
An intriguing move
Now, we know why the former Maple Leafs General Manager has made the move, as he wanted Rathbone, a player who is considered very talented but just couldn't make it work in Vancouver.
He will now get the opportunity to crack the NHL roster in Pittsburgh, but it's an entirely different story for Plasek, who was considered a throw in piece in the deal.
An underwhelming prospect
The 23-year old was a sixth round pick of the Canucks back in the 2019 NHL Draft, but has failed to fire thus far, skating in just eight AHL games, tallying no points over that time.
Now, the Penguins have immediately placed him on waivers for the purpose of contract termination, and while there's a silver lining that he's free to sign anywhere, it looks like he's got a long way to go if he ever wants to make it big in the NHL.
