The Penguins could soon be looking to move one of their forward's contracts.

Mikael Granlund

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, one of the Penguins' new additions to the team, Mikael Granlund, could be a trade target this upcoming season.

Former GM Ron Hextall acquired Granlund from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2023 2nd round pick.

Hoping that Hextall would make a big move at the trade deadline, fans were not too happy about the acquisition.

The biggest issue with keeping Granlund is his contract. Granlund has two more years on his $5M contract. Since joining the Penguins at the trade deadline, Granlund's production hasn't picked up. He had 1 goal and 4 assists with the Penguins this season. Before joining Pittsburgh, he had 9 goals and 27 assists with Nashville this season.

The 31-year-old was drafted by the Minnesota Wild 9th overall in the 2010 NHL Draft. In 750 NHL games, he has 145 goals and 339 assists.
