It's no secret that the Leafs are looking to make big changes in the organization this summer. After a tough playoff run that saw their star players Auston Matthews and William Nylander miss some games, and Mitch Marner being invisible in others, management determined that important measures must be taken.
A lot of reports suggest that the only players safe in the Leafs' core four are Matthews and Nylander, meaning that Marner and Tavares would be available on the trade market.
Both players are set to become free agents after the next season, and the Leafs could struggle financially to keep them in the team.
But with everything that went down with Marner in the playoffs, it really looks like he'll be the one to be leaving first.
Our colleagues over at Maple Leafs Daily believe that the Philadelphia Flyers would make the perfect trade partners for the Leafs.
Here's what they said in a recent blog:
The Flyers fell short of a playoff spot by only a few points after a surprising season. With a guy like Marner, their chances of clinching a ticket for next season's playoffs would be much better.
It's widely believed that the Leafs would target a defenseman in a Marner trade. The Flyers are sitting on a few interesting prospects at that position, such as Oliver Bonk, Emil Andrae or Helge Grans, that could interest Brad Treliving.
In order to be able to move Marner's massive $10.9M contract, the Flyers would need to part ways with a big contract, and one that fits that description would be Travis Konecny's.
To sum up, the Leafs could send Marner to Philadelphia for Konecny as well as a prominent defensive prospect, such as Oliver Bonk, Emil Andrae or Helge Grans.
Do you think the Maple Leafs will trade Mitch Marner to the Philadelphia Flyers?
