Philadelphia Flyers terminate 900-game NHL veteran Ryan Johansen
The Philadelphia Flyers organization announced that they've terminated the contract of 900-game NHL veteran Ryan Johansen.
Johansen was placed on waivers on Tuesday. An official statement was released by the organization:
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared additional details:
TSN's Chris Johnston, in another report, stated that Johansen is set to file a grievance over the termination. He added that in the past, players who went through that process were able to negotiate for a settlement.
He made the following post on X:
Johansen joined the Flyers at the 2024 trade deadline in a deal with the Colorado Avalanche involving defenseman
Sean Walker. Set to enter the final year of his contract next season, the 32-year-old veteran never wore the Flyers uniform since the trade because of a hip injury.
Even if he was on the ice for 10:58 during a game two days before the trade, he never played a game for the Flyers or the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL.
Before the trade, Johansen scored 23 points, including 13 goals, in 63 games with the Colorado Avalanche.
Drafted 4th overall in 2010 by the Columbus Blue Jackets, he ended up spending most of his career with the Nashville Predators, where he signed an eight-year, $64M contract back in 2017. In 905 career games in the NHL, he scored 202 goals and 376 assists.
