Nick Suzuki's message to Canadiens fans on rising attendance
Friday night will mark a huge moment for the Montreal Canadiens and their fans. For the first time in 28 years, the Stanley Cup Final will be back in the city as the Habs host the Tampa Bay Lightning for game three.
Unfortunately, a request by the team to increase attendance at the Bell Centre has been denied by government and public health officials. However, Canadiens forward Nick Suzuki said fans shouldn't be discouraged.
"Obviously, I know they'd love to be in the building, but that's just not the case in the world we're living in right now," said Suzuki following Montreal's game two loss to the Bolts. "But we love playing in front of our fans. We feel the energy out in the streets. It's been a lot of fun to play back in the Bell Centre and we know the 3500 that will be there will be cheering us on and the rest will be supporting us."
Montreal fans who haven't been lucky enough to get tickets (or simply can't afford the ridiculous prices) have been gathering in the streets during home games throughout the playoffs to support their team. It is a bit of a headscratcher that fans are limited in the building while thousands gather shoulder-to-shoulder in the street, but that is the reality right now.
Game three takes place Friday night. It is essentially a must-win for the Habs as the team is down 2-0 to Tampa Bay and going down 3-0 will all but seal the Lightning's second straight Stanley Cup victory.
