During the Montreal Canadiens preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, forward Patrik Laine suffered a brutal knee on knee collision courtesy of Toronto's Cedric Pare, and had to leave the game with assistance from his teammates. Montreal fans and players were none too impressed with the act, with head coach Martin St. Louis blasting the NHL for their lack of attention and response to Laine's injury.
Well, St. Louis was still clearly emotional speaking to the media after the team's practice on Monday:
St. Louis, who was signed to coach Montreal in 2022 is never one to shy away from his emotions, especially after St. Louis lost his mother in 2015 and it's great to see such passion and love for not only the game of hockey but for every member of that locker room. St. Louis played with his heart on his sleeve and his coaching methods are no different, and him being so emotional shows how close the Canadiens locker room has become.
Since becoming head coach of the Canadiens, St. Louis has a 75-100-26 record as he's tried to steer the Habs into the right direction. They've struggled the past two seasons, finishing 8th both years and the blow to Laine really jeopardizes the Canadiens chance to be a dark horse candidate to make the playoffs. He's yet to make the playoffs as a coach but his well versed in postseason play; having won the Stanley Cup in 2004 as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning and helping them to the first Stanley Cup in franchise history and St. Louis could eventually etch his name in the Canadiens record books if he wins a Cup during his time; expanding their lead in Cup victories all-time.
Martin St. Louis is never afraid to tell the media or people how it is, and always wears his heart out for everyone to see. It's one of the many reasons why the Canadiens have grown so close and grown closer to eventual playoff success.
