The Montreal Canadiens were treated to the debut of a rising young star on Monday, but unfortunately for Lane Hutson, he now faces a massive fine.
In recent years, the NHL have looked to improve player safety across the board, and while people agree with many of the rules put in place, there's one that still draws plenty of criticism. Now, that rule has come back to bite the Montreal Canadiens rookie Lane Hutson, as he skated his rookie lap without a helmet, something that the NHL will continue to fine players for.
Despite this, Hutson's rookie lap on the road was electric, and he immediately drew attention in his debut, tallying a stellar assist against the Detroit Red Wings.
The fine he faces is reportedly $2500, although veterans on the team are likely to pay that for him, as a rookie lap is a once in a lifetime experience, and with so much offensive potential, the Montreal Canadiens may have a star on their hands.
