During a lackluster season for the Canadiens, supporters were looking forward to one final hurrah as the season neared its end. Regrettably, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman had other ideas.

NHL Nixes Montreal Watch Party Event

Three of Montreal's most popular fan platforms—Habs Eyes on the Prize, GAME OVER: Montreal, and HabsFanTV—had organized a massive watch party for the Canadiens' clash with the Maple Leafs.

The event was set to include a raffle featuring incredible prizes, such as a reverse retro jersey autographed by the entire Canadiens team:

Scheduled to be held at the Cage Aux Sports restaurant adjacent to the Bell Centre, the gathering promised to be a festive occasion for all Canadiens enthusiasts.

Regrettably, the NHL intervened and pulled the plug on the event, stating that watch parties of this scale (which required a modest entrance fee) violated league regulations.

"The NHL shut it down through La Cage; there's not enough time to figure out a way of modifying the event to the NHL's satisfaction in order to hold the event."

While ticket holders were reimbursed, the joy and anticipation the event had generated for countless fans is irreplaceable.

A truly disappointing decision by the league.
