After they traded away Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks, Frank Seravalli reported that the Edmonton Oilers are closing in on a deal with another right-handed defenseman.
The Edmonton Oilers were very close to bringing the Stanley Cup back to Canada after a three-plus decade drought. However, after losing in Game 7 to the Florida Panthers, they were forced to make some tough decisions about who to keep and trade. The team decided to trade away defenseman Cody Ceci and a third-round pick to the San Jose Sharks for Ty Emberson just a short time before losing out on Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to an offer sheets deal with the St. Louis Blues.

Though Ty Emberson is also a right-handed defenseman, he has not developed to the same level as the former Oiler. However, reports indicate that Edmonton has a trade in place for another. Frank Seravalli recently shared on OilersNow with Bob Stauffer that the Oilers are looking for this position beyond a PTO deal, with the possibility of finalization before training camp. He did, however, indicate, he is unaware of who this player is.
"There's other things Edmonton is looking at, I think including a potential trade that could shake things up a little bit more than just the PTO route.
All I know is they have different options on the table"

The Edmonton Oilers are just a short time away from training camp, making the likelihood of this deal happening before time less and less likely by the minute. However, if Frank Seravlli's reports indicate any truth, we could see a new face in the defensive line before too long.
Will the Edmonton Oilers trade for a right-handed defenseman for this season as Frank Seravalli suggested?
