Connor McDavid has returned. After sitting out two practices and the last game against the Vegas Golden Knights, the superstar laced up for the Edmonton Oilers' optional skate.

Now, the big question is whether he'll hit the ice tonight against the Arizona Coyotes at Rogers Place.

Why's tonight so crucial? Well, if McDavid does play, he could join an elite club as only the fourth player in NHL history to notch 100 assists in a single season. Wayne Gretzky (11X), Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr are the only ones who've pulled off that feat. There's some added pressure with Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning hot on his heels with 98 assists of his own.

And it's not just about personal milestones. Edmonton's in a tight race for the Pacific Division title, trailing the Vancouver Canucks by four points with five games left and two games in hand. They've got a showdown with the Canucks tomorrow night too. Sure, they proved they can win without McDavid against the Golden Knights, but let's face it—for the playoffs and the stretch run, they need their captain, the best player on the planet, leading the charge.
