This season, McDavid has 10 points in nine games and was riding a bit of momentum before his terrible fall against Columbus. Edmonton hopes that McDavid not returning means that they are airing on the side of caution and not risking McDavid reaggravating anything as opposed to it being something serious. If Edmonton were to lose McDavid for any amount of time, it would crush their Stanley Cup dreams as the team is already struggling early on.
McDavid has been the league's best player since he arrived in 2015-16, with an absurd 992 in 654 career games and a whopping +153. Of his nine seasons, only twice has he not eclipsed the 100-point mark, and has at least 120 points in the last of his three seasons. A three-time Hart, five-time Art Ross, four-time Ted Lindsay, and one-time Maurice Richard winner, McDavid's legacy as one of the greatest ever has already been cemented, and if he were to win a couple of Cups in his career, when it's all said and done he could rival the greatest of all time, Wayne Gretzky.
