Jack Campbell Officially Hits Rock Bottom

By all accounts, Jack Campbell is one of the nicest guys in professional hockey. Unfortunately for him though, his play has dropped off a cliff this year and now it seems like he may never play in the NHL again.

Campbell Nearing Rock Bottom In American Hockey League

The Oilers famously waived Campbell early this season and sent him to the American Hockey League. The team was reportedly hoping that he can re-find his game at that level, but the results have not been good. Now that we have a good sample size, it seems like Campbell simply can't perform at an NHL level anymore.

things continue to go very poorly for jack campbell in the ahl, allowing these three goals against in the first 28 minutes of a condors' game tonight.

Last night's game got even worse for Campbell when he was pulled after the team went down 4-1. He was pulled a little over half way through the game after he gave up 4 goals on 21 shots for an .810 save percentage.

One fan even suggested demoting him again, to the ECHL.

Campbell Not Good Enough To Start In American Hockey League

The game lowered Campbell's record in the AHL to 4-5. It also lowered his save percentage to .888 and his goals-against-average to 3.61. Those numbers would be bad in the NHL, but given that these are AHL stats, we can assume that he would be even worse at the NHL level. As a result, it really seems like he is not an option at the NHL level anymore.

Jack Campbell was pulled after allowing four goals tonight for Bakersfield 😬 he's absolutely not getting called back up, nor should there EVER have been talk that he would. Its Rodrigue's net. I don't want Campbell starting any game down there anymore unless it's a back to back.

This development means that Ken Holland and the Oilers still need to find themselves another goalie. How they choose to address this issue remains to be seen as Jack Campbell was apparently plan A. Hopefully the team figures something out before they have to resort to plan Z.
