Sean Higgins is now charged with two counts of first-degree vehicular homicide, which each carry a possible sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison. That's up to 40 years inside a jail cell if he's found guilty on both, and if the judge gives him the maximum sentence. On top of this massive jail sentence, Higgins could face fines that could reach up to $200,000 per death, meaning he could be on the hook for up to $400,000 in penalties.
As Charles-Alexis Brisebois noted above, it was a completely avoidable accident. This should be the tipping point. With alternatives like Uber, taxis, and friends, there is just no excuse for driving under the influence. Let's hope a major lesson is learned from this devastation.
