Connor Bedard has been turning heads ever since he was drafted as the first overall pick last year. Hailing from British Columbia, the 18 year-old phenom was touted as one of the most NHL-ready prospects since Auston Matthews. Yet despite being the runaway Calder Trophy favorite, the reigning first overall pick still finds himself making those classic rookie mistakes.
It's not unusual for players to slip up now and then, but Bedard seems to have a knack for getting himself into sticky situations. There was the nasty hit from Brendan Smith that left him with a broken jaw Tonight, against the Arizona Coyotes, he added another hit to his highlight reel of takedowns.
During the first period against the Coyotes, Bedard passes the puck to his teammate, but instead of hustling back into the play, he admired his handiwork. Matt Dumba didn't like it in and delivered a thunderous hit right into the boards.
