Hockey icon and three-time Stanley Cup Champion Jonathan Toews announced before last night's game that it would be his last in Chicago. Fans may have seen the writing on the walls already with the direction the team has been headed this season, and it was always unlikely that a guy like Toews would stick around for a full blown rebuild, especially without long time teammate Patrick Kane.
While the announcement yesterday made the decision seem like it was in the hands of Toews, teammate MacKenzie Entwistle has come out and said otherwise. According to Entwistle, the deciding factor in Toews leaving the Blackhawks was due to the front office not wanting to re-sign the veteran.
With the shocking revelation that it was the front office who wanted to part ways with their longtime captain, it leaves fans wondering if there were some sour goodbyes. Others think that maybe parting ways with one of the faces of your franchise is less than optimal.
