Martin Necas could be the perfect fit for the Maple Leafs

Martin Necas could be the perfect fit for the Toronto Maple Leafs as he's set to enter the free agent market this summer.

General Manager Brad Treliving has big plans for the Maple Leafs this summer. They have plenty of assets to trade, and if they manage to get rid of one or two big contracts, they could also make a splash when the free agent market opens.

According to a new report, Martin Necas of the Carolina Hurricanes would fit well within Brad Treliving and Craig Berube's plan.

Necas, 25, had a great season this year, scoring 24 goals and 29 assists in 77 games, which was a bit less than what he tallied last year, when he tallied 71 points with the Canes. He also made the difference for his team in the playoffs, scoring nine points in 11 games. What's impressive is that he also maintained a great defensive game.

Even if he's a young star with room for improvement, he still ended third in points in the Canes organization. The possibility that he remains in the organization that drafted him 12h overall in 2017 is there, but if he ends up testing the market, Toronto should pull all stops to get him.

If he wanted to bring his talents to the Toronto Maple Leafs, it is believed he could be a game-changer. We can imagine him on the second line, helping John Tavares get back to his former glory.
