Former Calgary Flame Oliver Kylington loses big money after poor advice
Oliver Kylington came back after 18 months away from the NHL in 2024, but after some poor advice from his agent, his future is up in the air.
The career of Oliver Kylington in Calgary was full of twists and turns, and the 26-year old defenseman benefitted from the organization greatly, as they supported him during a two-year hiatus due to mental health.
After returning in 2024 to a solid performance, the hope in Calgary was that he would return to the team as a free agent, but after some bad advice from his agent that there was more term and AAV elsewhere, he remains a free agent.
Don't think he owed the franchise anything, but clearly the Kylington camp miscalculated in TITANIC fashion the market out there for him.
Looks like a bad bet that other teams were out there willing to go multi-year.
Hope he remains in the league next season. Great person.
The offensive minded defenseman has shown flashes of being a fantastic bottom four blue liner in the NHL, but unfortunately, the miscalculation from his management is set up to cost him greatly.
Should the Maple Leafs take a run at Oliver Kylington?
Despite their signings as of late, the Toronto Maple Leafs still lack a quick, puck moving defenseman that can break a game wide open, and Kylington could be just that player.
Despite the miscalculation, it appears he could be signed on a one or two year deal worth less than $2 million AAV, and if they could move out salary in David Kampf, Calle Jarnkrok or even Timothy Liljegren, it would be an interesting addition.
Ultimately though, a one or two year prove it deal in Calgary should have been enough given all that they did for him, and if the money's right, expect Toronto to make a play late in free agency.
