The Arizona Coyotes originally had a three-year deal to share Arizona State University's Mullet Arena with the NCAA club. While the Coyotes are in the second year of that deal, they still have no long-term solution to their housing crisis. Today, new information came out regarding the team's plan to build a new home on 95 acres of land in the Phoenix metro area. Several problems emerged.
Perhaps the biggest problem is the land auction itself. The team should hear from the state tomorrow as to whether or not the land auction will be approved. However, the team still has to actually win said auction before they can start building. With the team's ownership history, it seems possible that they could potentially cheap out and lose the auction. The Land itself has been valued at 68.5 million dollars.
The state is set to hold a hearing regarding the land auction tomorrow. Should it be approved, the auction would not be final until the end of May, so we should know more about the Coyotes' future in Arizona by then.
