After months of speculation, it appears the Anaheim Ducks are prepared to move Trevor Zegras, and now his preferred trade destination has been revealed.
The Anaheim Ducks future is incredibly bright, with a young core built around Mason MacTavish, Cutter Gauthier, Leo Carlsson and their top pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, and that may leave Trevor Zegras as the odd man out. Ever since GM Pat Verbeek traded his friend Jamie Drysdale, the writing has been on the wall, and with the off-season approaching, trade rumours persist.
Now, we are getting a deeper insight into the Zegras situation, with Peter Baugh of The Athletic revealing Zegras' preferred trade destination;
"What we can say is that Zegras, who trains in the offseason at Prentiss Hockey Performance alongside Chris Kreider, has had the Rangers as his ideal destination for a long time. Ducks GM Pat Verbeek has had some decent interest from at least one team believed to be the Flyers but is asking for a very expensive return for Zegras, who had an injury-plagued 2023-24 and finished with 15 points in 31 games." Baugh said. According to Baugh, Zegras, who trains alongside star forward Chris Kreider over the summer would prefer to be his teammate moving forward, and with the Rangers needs down the middle, it would certainly make sense.
He doesn't delve too far into the possibility of New York trading for Zegras, but given the interest around the league, it seems to be only a matter of time, and this would be a major deal for both parties moving forward.
