Team USA flight diverted after gold medal win, forcing an alternate landing, report says

Coming home from the Milano Cortina Olympics, Team USA was hoping that they would be able to get some much needed rest, considering they had a long day on Sunday and were no doubt feeling the effects of their celebration after securing gold.

With a trip to The White House on the horizon, there's potential for NHL clubs to be missing some pretty important players once the NHL season resumes but it looks like they'll have one more stop along the way.

According to a report from Chris Johnston, Team USA has had their flight to New York City diverted to Miami, and the team is going to be participating in an event at a Miami nightclub:

It's going to be a hectic event for sure, however for teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs they are hoping things get back to normal sooner than later.

While we can't fault the American team for putting back a few libations after winning, they do have to get down to business and another night of partying plus a long flight back to wherever they need to be is going to make some teams a bit more furious.

For Toronto, luckily they play in Tampa Bay and Florida upon resuming the schedule so Matthews doesn't have too far to go, but it's more of a question of if he will be in game shape after two days of celebrating and no practice or warm up.

With the potential for injury always there with Matthews, having him come right back without proper preparation may hurt them more than help, so it will be crucial to see when Toronto even gets him back to even start regular business again.

For fans who are lucky enough to attend the event, no doubt will there be a lot of wild stories and some pretty loud voices -- and you can potentially expect more fireworks to come out of the gold medal game than there already has been.
