Sorokin last played hockey professionally in 2021 for the team Molot-Prikamie Perm of the MHL, following stints with CSK VVS Samara, Gornyak Uchaly, Tolpar Ufa, Reaktor Nizhnekamsk, Ariada Volzhsk, and Avto Yekaterinburg. For his career in both leagues, he has a total of 13 goals and 51 assists in 329 games and while he was never a name known in North America, it's never easy to hear about losing a hockey player regardless of where they play. I'm sure Yegor had his fans and admirers in Russia, and it's a stark reminder of how fragile life is and not to take every day for granted.
Perhaps it would be in the NHL's best interest if they were to implement a way to educate and make it more accessible to watch more international hockey, so names like Sorokin can be appreciated by a wider audience; the European games are a good start but they should have more to choose from regularly.
