The controversial hockey expert Don Cherry has often stirred things up with his opinions and statements over the years.

Morgan Rielly's Incident: Dirty Hit on Ottawa Senators' Ridley Greig After Controversial Emprty-Netter

In a game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators, the Leafs lost 5-3, with the Sens' last goal being an empty-netter in the last few seconds of the third period.

The goal has attracted its share of controversy, as Ridley Greig scored with a slap-shot while he was alone in the zone and standing a few feet from the net.

After the goal, the Leafs' defenseman Morgan Rielly wasn't happy at all and he dangerously hit Greig as he was returning to his bench.

Much like the Maple Leafs head coach, who defended Rielly's actions after the game against the Senators, Cherry took the Leafs' side. He was even glad that he did it.

Here's what he said:

"I'm glad Rielly was on and I'm glad he did it. I know there's no rule in the book that says 'Don't do that' but you just don't do that."

"It was a spur of the moment thing that did. I think he meant to get him on the shoulder but he got him on the back of the neck."

Cherry might have taken into consideration that Rielly isn't a dirty player and don't often gets involved in such incidents before sharing his opinion.
