The Leafs Will Have to Pay a True Fortune to Acquire Ryan O'Reilly

Ryan O'Reilly will likely be traded come the deadline. While he had some glorious days in St. Louis, including a Conn Smythe winning Stanley Cup clinching 2019, things are looking towards a re-tool in St. Louis.

O'Reilly, their captain, has a lot of value. He's still a great player, and could be an important piece in another team lifting the cup come June.

One team that has been tied to him for a while is the Toronto Maple Leafs.

O'Reilly, a Toronto native, would likely be willing to take a discount to re-sign in the six.

Per Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic, the cost to acquire O'Reilly would be quite imposing:

When I asked an NHL scout what the Blues might ask for, the response on the condition of anonymity because he's not permitted to discuss other teams' rosters was: 'First-round pick plus Knies or Minten.'

Knies and Minten are the two best prospects in the Maple Leafs system. While they are by no means superstar talents, they are still important pieces.

Adding a first round pick in a stacked draft, this would be the Leafs going all in.

Do you think they should do it?
