Calgary Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau signed an eight-season deal yesterday that will pay him $10.5 million per year.

This week, he received a visit from his new GM, Brad Treliving, in Montreal.

Clearly, the latter was charmed by the Quebecer.

Jonathan Huberdeau was surprised by the trade.

"The trade was a shock to me, but I had to move on quickly. I'm really excited to join this team. They traded for my services, they really wanted me and it had an impact on my decision to commit to them long-term," he added.

He explains why he decided to sign with Calgary.

"The future in Calgary is bright. This is a team that wants to win now and that's why I'm excited to join this team. At the age I'm at, I want to win now," said the St. Jerome native, who also looks forward to his arrival across the border.

"As a Canadian, it's exciting for me to play in my country. Calgary is a great hockey town. The fans are fired up. Playing for the visiting team the last few years, it's always been tough to play in the Saddledome. There's a great atmosphere there."

He clearly had an idea in mind before starting the season in Calgary.

"It's a relief for me. I wanted to get there and know that I was going to be there for the next nine years. That was important to me. I'm going to give it my all for that team."
