ESPN will not renew ties with NHL legend
ESPN has confirmed a legendary NHLer will not return next season
Hall of Famer Chris Chelios will not return for coverage of the 2023-24 NHL Season, first reported by Front Office Sports.
Chelios, a former Defenseman with a record-tying 26 Seasons played, a record shared with fellow NHLer Gordie Howe, will leave ESPN amid layoffs at ESPN parent company, The Walt Disney Company, with Chelios reportedly one of many cuts to come at ESPN.
ESPN layoffs have meant an NHL great will not be on the air next season
Chelios joined ESPN in 2021 as an analyst for the network, joining after ESPN gained the rights to NHL Hockey following the league's prior partnership with NBC ending.
Chelios played 1,651 games for 4 teams, winning 3 Stanley Cups and 3 Norris Trophies and was an 11-time All Star. Chelios was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013.
