With NHL free agency beginning July 1st, many teams are looking to put together the right pieces to strength their teams. The Toronto Maple Leafs are no different.

Monahan Great Buy Low Option

After spending 8 seasons together with the Calgary Flames, it is possible that Leafs GM Brad Treliving signs former Flame Sean Monahan.
When Healthy Monahan is an elite player with great scoring ability. Unfortunately, he hasn't played more than 70 games in a season since 2018-2019 which would most definitely hinder his value.
In limited action this year, the former 6th overall pick in 2013 totalled 17 points in 25 games, strong number in limited action.
Monahan would be a strong veteran presence for the Leafs and gives the team more depth at Centre be Auston Matthews and John Tavares.

Value in Flexibility

With Stars ahead of him including Auston Matthews, John Tavares, and Mitch Marner, Monahan would be able to play a more hybrid role and his ability to play both sides of the puck would help the Maple Leafs in more ways than one.
While it would be great if Sean Monahan broke out and became the scoring machine he once was, his ability to create chances for his team offensively and play a strong defence is intriguing to many teams.
While Monahan is not the missing piece the Leafs need to win a the Cup, it is an excellent start.
As Read on Maple Leafs Daily - There is an excellent ''buy low'' option available to the Leafs this summer; he has ties to Brad Treliving as well.
