NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman was quick to correct himself after accidentally calling Joe Thornton the wrong nickname while addressing him in his speech.

During Monday night's Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, the inductees as well as members of the hockey world were set to give their thank-you speeches after being enshrined.

What Gary Bettman said during his Hall of Fame remarks

One of those speakers was NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, and during his speech in acknowledging the newest members accidentally gave Joe Thornton the wrong nickname, calling him 'Dumbo' instead of 'Jumbo.'
Bettman quickly corrected himself however, and Thornton was seen in the audience smiling and reacting to the slip-up.

How he corrected the slip when referencing Joe Thornton

Thornton's normal moniker of Jumbo fits not only his size, but his personality too as he is one of longest-tenured players in history who left a mark wherever he went.
Playing in 1,704 games and registering 1,539 points (430 goals, 1,109 assists), Thornton has cemented himself as not only one of the best playmaking forwards of all time, but also one who has been as durable as can be.
The slip-up brought some extra levity that shows while everyone does their best to be as proper and cordial during these celebrations, the human aspect comes out every once in a while.
The correction became a short lighthearted moment during a night focused on celebrating this year's inductees.
