For the mobile defenseman, who hasn't contributed much this season, it's been a puzzle. Expect management to focus on his game for the remainder of the season before making a decision on his future in the offseason. The Canadiens are likely to have to keep some payroll in this deal.
Jake Allen:
The Canadiens are anticipated to assess the market for Allen, who is only 31 and has a fair $2.87 million per season contract. At this moment, it appears that the franchise is content to retain Carey Price on board, which does not bode well for Allen's future with the squad.
Brendan Gallagher:
Gallagher is a heart and soul sort of player, but he's overpriced, and the Canadiens will likely see what the trade market has to offer next summer. He's scored 10 points in 23 games so far this season. It appears like 'Gally' is in his final season in Montreal, with Cole Caufield, Josh Anderson, and Tyler Toffoli all capable of playing right flank and signed to lower contracts.
