It has been known that the Toronto Maple Leafs are on the lookout for some help on defense, thanks to quite a few injuries, but the team may also be looking for help up front as well. That help could be at centre which would involve Max Domi either moving to wing or being a piece in the trade return.
Domi's standing on the roster may fluctuate
According to Sportsnet's Luke Fox:
To be sure, the Maple Leafs' top trade priority is defence help, particularly on the right side. Reading between the lines of comments made by coach Sheldon Keefe and GM Brad Treliving this week, Toronto would also like to upgrade its centre depth.
Sources are saying that the Leafs will be trying out a few different forward combinations as the team looks to showcase for some possible trades. According to Sportsnet's Luke Fox, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking at the centre ice position.
"To be sure, the Maple Leafs' top trade priority is defence help, particularly on the right side. Reading between the lines of comments made by coach Sheldon Keefe and GM Brad Treliving this week, Toronto would also like to upgrade its centre depth."
In talking of Max Domi, Luke Fox states:
«Sense is, the Leafs would prefer a pure pivot and keep Domi as a middle-six utility player.»
Could Domi be on the move?
Perhaps the Maple Leafs are willing to deal Domi. If they're willing to move him around the line up, the coaching staff needs to get some answers to some questions, even though they might not want to, as it may make the team open to moving him.
Joseph Woll is out week to week, and the Maple Leafs need help on the blue line, so they want depth on the back end. To cover all of the voids in the roster, something will have to be given up, and it begs the question of whether the team will think Domi, who is only signed for one season, is not needed in the teams' Stanley cup aspirations.
