Hockey is an extremely exciting sport in general, particularly when played live. Although fans are still not permitted to attend games in Canada due to the ongoing pandemic, they are permitted and have steadily increased in US hockey markets, including Washington, D.C., where the Capitals are playing the Boston Bruins in the first round of the playoffs.
As enjoyable as a live hockey experience can be, mistakes do happen and can quickly drain the fun out of an evening, as one did for a young Capitals fan on Saturday night during warm-ups prior to game one of the Caps/Bruins series.
As you can see in the video, Marchand had sent a member of the Bruins' equipment staff back to grab a stick and signed it for the young fan, pointing her out to another staff member who made his way over to her, cradled in who appears to be her mother's arms and handed it to her to cheer her up.
Not exactly known for his good-guy characteristics, it was a very classy move by Marchand, ensuring that the girl had something positive come out of the whole thing and I'm sure she didn't mind that the stick didn't come from a Capitals player one bit.
