BREAKING: Jason Spezza Hired in an NHL Front Office
After Kyle Dubas was named president of hockey operations in Pittsburgh, it was expected he'd bring some of his old Toronto friends with him.
He has now brought former second overall pick Jason Spezza to Pittsburgh as an assistant GM.
Spezza Hired
Jason Spezza's NHL front office experience is minimal, as he only spent one season in Toronto as a special assistant to GM Kyle Dubas. When Dubas and the Leafs cut ties, he resigned from his post due to his close friendship with him.
Dubas had this to say about the hiring:
"After a decorated playingcareer, Jason fully immersed himself on the management side of the game learning all facets of hockey operations this past season while with Toronto.
He showed tremendous work ethic, curiosity, and ability to build relationships throughout all departments at theteam facility. His move from the roster to the front office helped make the hockey ops, coaching staff, and playing roster a more cohesive and collaborative unit."
Spezza will be part of a Penguins team in a perennial win-now' mode, similar to the Ottawa Senators teams of the mid-2010s.
This exciting chapter of his career will be bittersweet for Leafs fans surely.
