Connor Brown is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career July 1st.
The right winger spent last season with the Washington Capitals, but suffered a ACL tear after only four games which forced him to miss the rest of the year.
Brown started his NHL career with the Leafs, and spent four seasons with the team, before being traded alongside salary dump Nikita Zaitsev to the Ottawa Senators.
Brown was a player the Leafs did not want to part ways with, as he was valuable depth to the early Matthews-era Leafs. But the cap crunch led him being added as a sweetener to the trade in order to get off of Zaitsev's onerous contract.
Now four seasons later, and coming off a major injury Brown should come cheap, and may just be a perfect replacement for the departing Michael Bunting.
Brown, a Toronto native is coming off a contract that paid him $3.5 million per season, and should not be in line for any more than that as he hardly played last year.
Once free agency hits, it will be interesting to see if a reunion is in the cards.
