Alex Ovechkin's race to Wayne Gretzky's mark is followed all over the world.

While everybody's talking about how Ovi could reach the record, the former NHLer and co-host of Spittin' Chiclets Paul Bissonnette believes that another player in the League could get to that record.

According to Biznasty, Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews could be the next in the running to beat Wayne Gretzjy's goal record.

Currently producing at a rhythm of 70+ goals for this season, if Matthews doesn't get major injuries in his career, it's realistic to believe he could reach the mark.

"I think that there's a high chance that Matthews ends of being the highest goal-scorer of all time. He's a freak in the gym, and the way that the game has evolved, it kind of protects these kinds of players. He doesn't play nearly as physical as Ovechkin did. So as far as his body holding up - people do say he was injured a lot more than Ovi was. Especially early on. But, buddy I think there's a high probability that Matthews ends up breaking the overall goal record."

Ovechkin, in almost 20 years in the NHL, never scored more than 65 goals in a season. Matthews already hit the 60 goal mark, and everything leads us to believe he'll hit it many times in his career.
