Don Cherry has revealed the lesson that the late Leaf Bobby Baun taught him.

Baun Passes

On August 14th the Toronto Maple Leafs and hockey community lost Bobby Baun.

Baun was a part of four different Stanley Cup-winning teams, including the 1967 Toronto Maple Leafs.

Cherry's Lesson From Baun

After hearing the news of Baun's passing, Don Cherry took to social media to share his condolences. He also revealed the lesson Baun taught him.

Sad to hear of the passing of Bobby Baun. In my rookie year in Hershey I was minding my own business watching a fight and Bobby came up behind me and put me in a choke hold. He taught me a big lesson that game. Always know who's on the ice. Godspeed Bobby.

This is one of the most valuable lessons one can learn in hockey as some players will be out to get you while others will avoid contact. Baun was one of those players who sought out contact and never passed up a chance to lay a hit.

While physicality and fighting is phasing out of hockey, there are still players and personalities who remember the older days where you could get away with just about anything.

As seen on Blade of Steel - Cherry explains the valuable lesson he learned from Baun
