Ryan Reynolds is both an accomplished actor and an eccentric businessman. Well known for both his stellar roles in pop culture favorites, as well as his ownership shares in Mint Mobile and Wrexham FC, Reynolds is a well rounded celebrity. When it came out that the Canada native had interest in buying the Senators, fans were ecstatic, and many hoped his bidding group would win. A new update, may put a damper on those hopes.
Reynolds, Remington Group Out on Senators Bid
Despite months of rumors that Reynolds and his bidding partners were the front-runners to win the bidding process for the Ottawa Senators, ESPN has now reported that Reynolds' bid will not be going forward.
Gary Bettman had previously spoken on his encounters with Reynolds throughout the bidding process, and had some high praise for the actor.
"[Reynolds] very much impressed us. If we can figure out a way to have him included, I think that would be great for the Senators and great for the league. ... He's very smart, he has a number of businesses besides the acting business, and he understands sports and he understands promotion. I think he told us his followers on all of his platforms combined was well over 100 million." - Gary Bettman
Reynolds has also spoken publicly about his endeavors to buy the Senators, most notably on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
"I am trying to [buy the team]; it's very expensive, so I need a partner with really deep pockets. It's called a consortium, when you form a group to buy an entity, and it's such a fancy way of saying, 'I need a sugar mommy or a sugar daddy,' and if that doesn't happen, I'll buy a U.S. senator, which everyone can afford." - Ryan Reynolds
What happened to cause this fall through in negotiations is unknown, but fans shouldn't be too disappointed. Rapper Snoop Doggs bid for the team is still active, so he could end up being part owner of the Senators.
