Eric Staal Gets Caught in a Lie Regarding Pride Jersey's
The NHL's pride jersey controversy took an unexpected turn on Thursday night when brothers Eric and Marc Staal, both playing for the Florida Panthers, declined to wear the symbolic jersey during warm-ups, citing religious beliefs as their reason.
Staal Caught Lying After He Declined To Wear Pride Warm-Up Jersey
After the game, Eric Staal maintained that he had never worn a pride jersey during his professional hockey career.
"I haven't before. I never have. I haven't worn a pride jersey before."
However, some observant Twitter users contradicted his claim, providing photographic and video evidence of him wearing a pride jersey two years ago while with the Montreal Canadiens.
Although it is his right to uphold his religious beliefs, it remains unclear whether his memory is inaccurate, his beliefs have shifted since then, or he simply forgot. Regardless, the controversy that has emerged this season shows no signs of dissipating anytime soon.
