Jonathan Toews' future in the NHL has been up in the air for some time now, but we really didn't see this coming. The veteran center has long been rumored to find a new home this offseason, but it doesn't look that way anymore.
Toews Might Retire
According to Toews' agent, Pat Brisson, the Blackhawks legend may decide to call it a career this summer. Because of this, he won't be signing a new contract anytime soon.
Jonathan Toews' agent Pat Brisson says that Toews will not be a day 1 free agent signing and that he is still deliberating his future and whether or not he wants to continue playing. - Frank Seravalli
While we believe that Toews could still be an impactful middle-six player in the NHL, he may not want to call another city home right now. With Chicago rebuilding, it seems like it's either Stanley Cup contention or retirement.
We hope to see Toews in some fresh new colors next season but will respect his decision either way.
