The Arizona Jokes

The Arizona Coyotes are considered a laughing stock in the NHL. They play in a college arena, have had terrible seasons in recent years, and struggle to attract talented players.

Their latest move further highlights their difference from the other 31 teams.

The Coyotes, along with their GM, Bill Armstrong, signed forward Jack McBain to a two-year contract.

Rumors suggested he would be earning $1.6M, but Elliotte Friedman's revelation showed a ridiculously close number.

McBain's Ridiculous Contract

As a RFA, McBain was heading towards salary arbitration, but he reached an agreement with the Coyotes before that.

He signed for $1,599,999 AAV, just a dollar below $1.6M.

This could imply two things: either the player really wanted $1.6M and settled for a dollar less to make the deal happen, or the Coyotes were determined to pay him less than $1.6M and insisted on him signing for a dollar less.

In either case, it's an unfortunate situation. In a professional league, this deal shows a lack of professionalism. Almost going to arbitration over one dollar is completely absurd and reinforces the Coyotes' reputation as a joke in the NHL.
