According to reports from Max Truman of BPM Sports, the Montreal Canadiens have turned down an offer for forward Sean Monahan.

The story doesn't say which team or when that offer was tabled, but all indications are that Kent Hughes is in no hurry to trade his team's fourth-leading scorer.

Recall that TSN's Pierre LeBrun has linked Monahan to the Colorado Avalanche, considering the team is in the market for a second centre.

Obviously, the CH wants to raise Monahan's price, in order to get as much as possible at the trade deadline. Obviously, this is a double-edged sword, because if he gets hurt, that plan falls apart.

The other option would be to offer him a contract extension. Would Hughes be willing to offer his 28-year-old veteran nearly $6 million a year?

With 14 points in 22 games, Monahan is on a 50-point pace, which would be his most points since the 2018-19 season.

File to follow.
