The upheaval within the Toronto Maple Leafs' front office is no secret, particularly following the sudden dismissal of Kyle Dubas without a clear contingency plan in place.

This has Leafs Nation and Hockey Insiders alike speculating about the organization's next move when it comes to a new General Manager, including Leafs players.

Luke Schenn Was In Contract Extension Talks With Dubas

Newly re-acquired Leafs defender, Luke Schenn, has recently revealed some insider details. He disclosed that prior to the announcement of Dubas' non-renewal, he was in talks with the former general manager about a potential contract extension. Schenn, aged 33, made this revelation last week, shortly after Dubas was relieved of his duties.

"Luke Schenn mentions that he was engaged in extension talks with the Leafs just prior to Kyle Dubas being relieved of his duties late last week.

Hopefully, the two sides can reconvene once the Leafs hire a new GM and work towards getting a new deal in place before July 1st," Schenn said.

Schenn was a beneficial addition to the Leafs' defensive line-up at this season's trade deadline. His hard work and consistent performance saw him rise from a bottom-pairing role to being paired with Morgan Reilly throughout the playoffs.

It seems evident that Schenn is keen on signing an extension, however, with the absence of a general manager at the Leafs currently, extension talks for Shenn remain unclear if he's going to be back at all.
