Who said your GM has to have GM experience in the NHL?

The Hunt For a New GM

The Penguins hunt for a new GM started last Friday afternoon after firing GM Ron Hextall, assistant GM Chris Pryor and President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke. Since then multiple names of who could replace Hextall have been brought up, but an even more interesting one just came up.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman threw out Jeff Greenberg's name among candidates who could replace the former Flyer as GM.

What's so special about Jeff Greenberg, besides the fact that he's a Pittsburgh native? He has general manager experiencein Major League Baseball.

Having spent 11 years with the Chicago Cubs association, Greenberg had major involvement in putting together the 2016 World Series team.

There is also a connection between the Penguins' ownership, Fenway Sports Group, and Greenberg. Former GM of the Boston Red Sox, Theo Epstein, highly admires Greenberg.

Greenberg is currently an associate GM for the Chicago Blackhawks.
