After a hectic week of rumors surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs, we have a first new bit of information on Sheldon Keefe, and his future in the NHL. As the Leafs prepare for some massive changes in their front office, Keefe's job isn't guaranteed, but it seems like he has a backup plan.

Keefe Could Be a Target For New York

That's right, Sheldon Keefe could hop right on over to another contender if the Leafs decide to move on from his services.

The topic of the Rangers' coaching vacancy was recently discussed on SNY, where Sheldon Keefe was named a potential fit for the Rangers' head coaching position. They cited Keefe's experience in the NHL as important criteria that had to be met, and so it looks like the Rangers will stay away from a first-time head coach.

James Mirtle of The Athletic also reported on this topic, which further reinforces its credibility. If Keefe is indeed fired, fans should expect to see him interview for the Rangers gig.

Too Soon?

There's also the possibility that like Kyle Dubas, Keefe wants to wait before jumping right into his next job. After all, coaching in the NHL is no easy task, and you're away from your family for extended periods of time. Perhaps Keefe will take some time off to be with his loved ones before resuming his career as an NHL coach.
