The officiating in the playoffs is yet again under criticism this year. Players, coaches, and fans only want some consistency in the calls, and it doesn't seem possible as the refs continue to omit calling certain penalties.

Yesterday, they made a big mistake that makes Nathan MacKinnon look bad.

In the second period, the Avs were in the offensive zone, and MacKinnon got knocked down in what should have been a tripping penalty.


The refs missed the call, and MacKinnon lost it. He lost valuable time by swinging his stick at the boards. Then, the action moved quickly to the Avs' zone, and the Kraken scored on the sequence.


MacKinnon lost his cool and cost his team an important goal. If he didn't let his emotions get the best of him, the Kraken might not have scored.

He knows better, and he'll have to do better next time, as Colorado will face elimination tomorrow.
