NHL Controversially Allows Player to Officiate For His Former Team

Officiating bias is something that should not be allowed in any competitive sport. The backlash that the league could face would be instrumental. However, there is now a case where that conflict could take place.

Wes McCauley has been an official for a long time. Alongside him is Carter Sandlak. Sounds harmless right? Sandlak was a former player at the NHL level for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Oddly enough, the Hurricanes will be playing against the Montreal Canadiens. While Montreal is in the Bedard sweepstakes, Carolina is fighting for every two points to capture the division title.

While conflict might be unlikely, it is something to monitor as the game will take place in the heart of Montreal.
