The Leafs have real gold in Matthew Knies. The second-round pick has exceeded all expectations, and has now been named a finalist for a top NCAA award.

Knies Named Finalist For BIG10 Player of the Year

The BIG10 Player of the Year Award is given to the most valuable player in the BIG10 section of the NCAA.

#LeafsForever prospect Matt Knies is a finalist for Big 10 Player of the Year. Other finalists are G Ryan Bischel (Notre Dame) and D Luke Hughes (Michigan)

While his competition is steep, especially with Luke Hughes dominating in his sophomore season, Knies has a solid chance at the role.

It would sure be an incredible way to end his college career before making the NHL jump as soon as a few weeks from now.

There's big things to come for this kid.
