Just a Coincidence?

Warning: this article contains graphic content.

The investigation regarding the 2018 Canadian World Junior hockey team has quite possibly taken a new turn.

On Friday, The Athletic's Katie Strang claimed the investigation into the team's sexual abuse scandal was «active and ongoing».

Now, some eagle-eyed fans have noticed some players on that team going private on social media, perhaps as a hint that they may be guilty. To be clear, this could very well just be an honest coincidence, and it would be ill-advised of us to speculate on any wrongdoing on anyone's part before full details are officially revealed.

What we do know, though, is that four players on that World Junior team Dillon Dubé (currently of the Calgary Flames), Carter Hart (Philadelphia Flyers), Brett Howden (Vegas Golden Knights) and Jonah Gadjovich (currently with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers) have made their Instagram accounts private and erased references to teams they play for in their bios.

Going from Bright to Dark

In fairness, some fans say Dubé and Gadjovich had both already been private on Instagram. As for Hart, Philadelphia Flyers GM Daniel Brière has denied there's anything to him making his account private, and expects him to be at training camp at the start of the upcoming season (this was in response to Hart's Instagram activity simultaneously sparking trade speculation).

Either way, this investigation has been a drawn-out process, and such a flurry of activity on Instagram from multiple guys on the same team with a sexual abuse scandal hanging over its head is hard to ignore. Whether any of those aforementioned players are implicated in this scandal or if they'll face suspensions and/or other such discipline if so remains to be seen, though rumour has it details should be revealed fairly soon.
