The Penguins defenseman Kris Letang was back on his feet quickly after suffering his second stroke of his career in December. Before playing the Habs on Tuesday night, Letang was asked by reporter Jean-François Chaumont from the Journal de Montreal about his health. Letang answered that he cannot guarantee that he won't suffer more strokes in the future.

Letang opens up about his health

«It's never truly behind me,» Letang said. «It has happened several more times, it seems. But we have a plan right now that we will execute it when/if needed. With this plan, I feel less stressed and less anxious thoughts in mind. But everything is stable and perfect. There is no problem with my health.»

Letang missed 2 months during the 2014 season due to his first stroke, which was caused by a small hole in the wall of his heart. This small hole lead to another stroke, which was preceded by debilitating headaches.

His fellow defenseman on the Penguins have been really supportive to their teammate. Especially Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, who have helped Letang shine on the ice. Thanks to this support, the Penguins beat the New York Rangers 3-2.

«There are several reasons to explain it. I play with Sid and Malkin, it helps me a lot. But when I jump on the ice in overtime, I also want to make a difference. I want to be the guy who will get the win for my team. There is nothing more enjoyable than scoring in overtime.»

During last night's match against the Canadiens, Letang scored one goal and got two assists. The Penguins are in a good spot, taking the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference standing.

Letang is prioritizing his health and helping his team with the playoffs.
